Elephants!

Hey guys!!! I am back with another post today!!!
So, in this post i am going to be talking about the biggest terrestrial animal in the world: Elephants!!

 Elephants have
always been friendly with humans. They have always helped to do works that are not possible by mankind! When there was no such thing as transportation back then, elephants helped humans to carry heavy loads between distant lands. The best example is the significant stone at the top of the Tanjore temple in Tamil Nadu.
Elephants are of so much help to this environment and they complete the ecosystem and yet we treat them very badly. No matter how helpful they are, we humans always take advantage of their kindness and kill them for mere body parts. That is just unbearable! Here are a few things u need to know about elephants and I wish this helps you understand why elephants are important to this environment and why people shouldn’t kill them for their greediness.
  • Elephants are the gardeners of the forest- “it seems difficult to imagine elephants delicately tending a garden, but these animals may well be the world’s weightiest horticulturalist. Elephants eat abundant amounts of fruit when available; seeds pass through their guts, and after expelled, sprouts a new plant.” (Quoted words were taken from another website)
  • Elephants are some of the most intelligent animals on our planet.
  • The word “Elephant” comes from the Greek word “elephas”.
  • The average life span of an elephant is from 50-70 years.
  • Male  elephants can reach 3m tall and weigh between 4000-7500 kg.
  • Elephants spend between 12-15 hours eating grass, plants and fruit, every single day!
  • They use their long trunks to smell their food and lift it up into their mouth.
  • An adult needs to eat upto 150kg of food a day-that's 50 tonnes a year!
  • Elephants are highly social animals with incredible memories. It's really true that elephants never forget. Elephants are capable of showing complex behaviour such as showing empathy towards others and showing emotions such as grief.
  • Elephants can get sunburned. These giants bath in mud to protect their skin from the sun. They also do that to keep the bugs off.
  • Elephant tusk have a variety of uses: as a tool to dig for food or water; and to strip bark from trees; as a weapon in battles.
  • The larger his tusk, the more attractive a male elephant appears to a female elephant.
  • Female elephants live in groups and are usually led by the oldest in the group.
  • She will decide where and when they move and rest, day to day and season to season.
  • The trunk is an elephant’s most versatile tools, used for breathing, smelling, touching, grasping and producing sound. It's probably the most amazing body part in the animal kingdom.
  • The elephant’s feet are very sensitive, and can detect vibrations through the ground!
I’d like to add this point that I came across while reading a magazine.
When people go sightseeing to the forests and there are elephants in the forest, some among the people throw glass bottles in the middle of forests and not in the dustbins. That little action they do by not throwing the glass bottle in dustbins can cost an elephant it’s life! Here’s why: when people don’t dispose glass bottles properly and they throw it in the forest, if an elephant comes by the path, it might accidentally step on the glass bottle and it’s incredibly soft feet would be impaled by the sharp edges of the bottle. Since it’s a very big animal, it can’t move! The animal tries calling for help, and if some forest officers are nearby, they would try to help! If it’s a dense forest, there would be no help around and the elephant would stay there for days and then slowly die of hunger. So this is what happens when u throw glass bottles in a forest, u kill an elephant! So the next time you go sightseeing, try not to throw glass bottles everywhere!

And that is it for this post! Hope u guys learned about the importance of elephants in the environment! Comment down below, ur personal experience or encounter with an elephant! Bye for now! Thanks for reading!!!

  1. So when I went to a temple when I was bit younger, I saw a cute little elephant just coming out from its bath! I was just standing there, amazed, when it was walking by! Then the elephant blessed us with it’s trunk! And tbh I was a bit scared when it did that πŸ˜…! So, comment down below about ur encounters with elephants!

  2. I simply adore elephants!! I mean yes, I am VERY scared of them, but they're just so cute!!
Now, just like we save the turtles by not using plastic straws, let's save the elephants by not throwing glass bottles!

    Here's one of my experiences!
I was eight or nine and I was in the car with my family going around a hill station and eating my lollipop when there was this little crowd before us. We went a little more forward to see what the crowd was about and when we did, all the people there were turning and running away from there. We managed to stop one of them and asked what was the matter and they told us that an elephant was chasing people. I was scared to death and to make it worse, my idiot of a sister told me that elephants were attracted to lollipops. And being the naΓ―ve girl I was, I believed it and started crying and that was my story of how I hated my sister ever since. LOL!

Anyway, this post was so interesting!! I loved it!

Saving the elephants by not throwing glass bottles around,
    Pranavaa xx

My experience with elephants wan't much, but once there was this big white elephant (you know, the kinds which go with the person with it to collect money) and I wanted to touch it, so my dad gave me some coins to give to it and then he lifted me up and I touched it and my heart almost jumped out of my throat! I was that excited!
